The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced Wednesday results from a recent survey – and it’s not good news.
Earlier this month, 14,000 adults and children were surveyed during the first eleven days of October and their findings confirmed that 1 in 5 children have had a fever and other flu-like symptoms during that 11 day time period.
A spokesperson for the CDC says that the swine flu is widespread throughout the country, and the virus is causing more illness now that it has at any time since it was first identified over six months ago. In subjects age 5 to 64, there have been as many flu-related hospitalizations in the last six weeks as there usually are in an entire flu season.

These statistics really bring home the seriousness of the H1N1 situation. I find it interesting how according to the media many Americans particularly with small children are desperate to get vacines for their children. On the other hand countries with smaller populations such as Canada, which have the vacine available for everyone, are finding a lot of their citizens are not confident enough in the safety of the vacine to receive it. I myself have not made a decision whether or not to get vacinated. If I choose not to get vacinated, I will be cancelling my travel plans for this winter. I haven’t heard a lot about how the tourist industry in America is being affected particularily in comparison to what has been said about Mexico.

interesting thought — going to do some research to see if the tourist industry is being affected. Thanks for the post!
