According to experts at the Wake Forest University School of Medicine in North Carolina, people who drink one to two alcoholic beverages a day have a 40 percent less chance of developing dementia compared to those who don’t drink alcohol. The study was conducted by interviewing over 3,000 senior citizens over the age of 75 who had no signs of dementia, and asking the participants how much alcohol they consumed in a day. Wake Forest University presented their ground breaking findings to the Alzheimer’s Association 2009 International Conference .
The study also showed other benefits to mild drinking, including reducing the risk of heart disease. The key is mild drinking. It has also been shown that drinking in excess of two drinks per day can increase risks of brain damage. Moderation is clearly important.
Finding a balance with the amount of alcohol you consume each day may help you avoid serious health risks and live a longer, healthier, life. As we advocate for more affordable health insurance, we hope to spread awareness of healthy living to America.
